It’s strawberry season and this is a unique, simple and if I do say so, gourmet, way to serve this delicious fruit.
- 4 pints (8 cups) fresh strawberries, sliced thick
- 5 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- freshly grated lemon zest, for serving
- optional: grated black pepper to taste
About an hour before you want them, slice the strawberries and combine all the ingredients. Allow to sit at room temperature. When you are ready to eat, grate the lemon zest (pepper if you are adding that) and either eat it as is or serve over real vanilla ice cream of for a healthier treat, plain, unsweetened, full fat yogurt.
